Acrobat Ants
A small black ant that nests outside but can appear inside. They get their name by the habit they have of elevating their abdomen in the air. While they most commonly nest in debris and wood piles, acrobat ants can move into a structure and may be seen trailing along walks, walls and siding.
Argentine Ants
The Argentine Ant lives in huge colonies and forages in large numbers. Their trails can be extremely long. They are generally found outside, but can enter the home or structure and nest inside.
Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants get their name because they excavate wood in order to build their nests. Their excavation results in smooth tunnels inside the wood. Carpenter ants range in size from one-quarter inch for a worker ant to up to three-quarters inch for a queen.
Fire Ants
Red imported fire ants nest in soil and build mound nests. They can infest garages.
Odorous Ants
Often described as small black ants these ants exist in large colonies. There can be numerous colonies around the structure and they can nest in the structure in numerous places. They appear out of nowhere and in large numbers.
Pavement Ants
Named because they nest under concrete and around stone and pavements. An indication of this ant is a mound of soil pushed up through cracks in cement. They have been found nesting in walls of slab structures.
Pharaoh Ants
They are generally found trailing in large numbers. Follow trails and look in and around appliances, cabinetry, inside pantries, along window sills, counter tops, sinks, baths and kitchens.
